Philips Dichroic lamps are pin-based low voltage spotlights. These lamps are reliable and give a good quality halogen light. It is popular opinion that halogen lamps give a better light when run on a 12 volt system. 12v lamps require a transformer to reduce the power from Mains Voltage to Low Voltage.
Halogen bulbs are dimmable if they are being run on a dimmable transformer. Dichroic reflector throws light forward and heat backwards.
Whilst initial cost is low for these lamps, they are not very efficient alas you will end up spending a lot more money on electricity. We recommend upgrading to the 5000 hour, energy saving Philips Masterline ES, the Masterline ES is a green flagship product and has the lowest cost of ownership (product cost + electricity cost + replacement cost).
